Question about the origin of the false accusation against Jews of the blood libel...?

Pagan Romans early on started rumors about Christians with regard to communion. Since Christians spoke of drinking the bloof of Christ, and also spoke of Christ as a little child, it became a rumor that what Christians were really doing during communion was hiding a newborn in a loaf of bread - and then they would have a new initiate cut it open, and then they would eat the flesh.

In the Middle Ages, Christians started a rumor that Jews would kill a Christian child, and bake his blood in their Passover Matzah.

These 2 accusations seem related to me. But why would Christians believe this about Jews, when they themselves had to endure persecution on account of the false accusation placed on them?

Are these rumors related?Question about the origin of the false accusation against Jews of the blood libel...?
They probably were, but I suppose that people would forget things over a few generations back then. Most children did not go to school, and consequently there was no history class. So nobody would remember being persecuted by the Romans, not in the middle ages.

It is possible that the rumors are related. That would make sense. The concept of blood-in-bread (or matzah; if you have ever eaten it you woud hesistate to call it bread) was probably floating around in the mind of some priest somewhere who read somewhere about the earlier persecution. But the details probably slipped his mind. So after one suspicious occurence, of course that concept came to mind and everyone blamed the Jews for killing Christian children.Question about the origin of the false accusation against Jews of the blood libel...?
Short memories. It's just another example of Christians stealing other people's ideas.
Not a shread of truth just rumour pay no attention
human nature is the reason as to why they believed in the rumors
I am aware of Christians being accused of atheism and cannibalism, but not involving a child. I think that is unlikely (would you send me a source, I'm interested). I am also aware of anti-semitism during the middle ages, forcing them to work as merchants and money-exchangers (which is how Jewish people became associated with money). But I don't know of the connection you speak of. Interesting.
Tough question

It is true as stated by early church historians that first century Christians were were falsely accused cannibals and did abominations with children. But to tie that in with what may have happened in the middle ages would be far fetched. The circumstances were entirely different.
That's religion for you. Just one of so many reasons for Atheists. Nothing in religion makes any sense. Nothing.
I do not blame Jews for this nonsense story.... It is a myth.

I do not like though when I hear this:';it was a home aid in Brooklyn whom the jewish family she worked for say the following: You are my slave... I have two slaves working for me. One cleans the house, another one takes care of my children. All nations are to work for jews since it is written in the Holy Book by God.';

I think the hate for jews derives from these kind of words and facts commited by some jews.
I have read about both of these things, but never linked them together in my mind.

Hmm...I guess, when two groups of people hate each other as much as the Jews and the Christians have hated one another trhough the ages, rumors like this are bound to make the rounds.

Actually, Jews and Christians both believe that it is Muslims who are secretly roasting kidnapped chidren at their evil feasts...

*snark*

(please do not take that last remark seriously)
Probably not really related.

People have been making up ridiculous stories about their enemies ever since there were two monkeys flinging poo at each other.

In fact, making up ridiculous stories is what humans do best - i.e. the bible, the koran, etc.
';Blood Libel'; was touted against Jews by the Roman Catholic church as late as 1913. And by a community in Poland as late as 1946 (who killed holocaust survivors returning to their homes).

People will believe anything. Especially anything claimed by a guy in long robes and a funny hat.
