What do you think the punishment should be for false accusations to the police?

There are already punishments, depending on whether the accusation was made honestly or maliciously.

In most cases I think a fine is sufficient. What do you think the punishment should be for false accusations to the police?
The punishment should be the same as the falsely accused would have been facing if the false accusation had been believed.

For example, if a woman feels spurned and decides to claim she was raped - when it was completely consentual - then if the man was facing 5 years imprisonment and a 拢2000 compensation order against the ';victim';, then SHE should have EXACTLY the same punishment - and be ordered to pay the same amount to the wrongly accused.

Ditto for people who play the race card when there has been no racism whatsoever.

I think this is a very simple and very fair punishment - the false accuser is punished to exactly the same degree that the innocent person might have been wrongly punished for.

It depends on why they made them. Some people suffer from mental illness and although their accusations are just as painful to deal with as accusations motivated by pure malice, it seems unreasonable to expect them to pay the same penalty as someone who is a mischief maker.

A person who is fully compus mentis and is seeking to harm an innocent person in full awareness of the consequences should be dealt with in such a way as to compensate the victim for the misery suffered as the result of the false accusations.
It all depends on how serious the accusations were and how it affected someone else's life. If it is very serious then I think they should go to jail for a while to teach them a lesson. If it is not so serious then a few hundred hours of commuity service would seem to be a fit punishment.
If it was purpose they should get the punishment they tried to get someone by lieing. This happened to me, 3 people lied to get there friend off scott free. Hasnt been to court yet but when it does i will be charged. When it happens to you you get a little angry so my veiw may be wrong.
writing ';I will not make false accusations to the police'; on the blackboard 100 times. after all, that ALWAYS works for Bart Simpson :)
a 1 year prison sentence.
Comparable to the accusation.
5years imprisonment!
Hanging.
